Hermie and the integration of Shopware & Tweakwise

Hermie.com is a leading player in the gardening sector, specialising in products such as swimming pools, outdoor toys, garden tools, seeds, fertilisers and potting soil. The company was founded with the vision to offer a wide range of garden products backed by excellent customer service. Since the end of 2019, Hermie has had a joint venture with Famiflora, Belgium’s largest garden centre, allowing it to expand its product range on a weekly basis.
Hermie originally started as a market vendor and local garden centre but developed into a leading online retailer of home and garden products in Belgium, the Netherlands and France. Despite challenges, the webshop continued to grow, leading to winning the THEO for “Entrepreneur of the Year” in 2022 and further expansion of the business operations.

The challenge

Before implementing Tweakwise, Hermie was using Shopware’s standard solutions. Gert Schatteman, e-commerce manager at Hermie, says: ”We had been working with Shopware’s standard sorting, filtering and search solution for a while, but it wasn’t adequate for what we wanted to do. Especially in terms of ranking, we wanted to have more influence on the products displayed and to be able to push where we wanted ourselves. Managing filters was very cumbersome and also not adequate in Shopware. As a result, many irrelevant filters became visible. As a result, customers couldn’t see the wood for the trees.”
  • More control over displayed products and the ability to push certain products.
  • Optimised filter management to increase relevance in filters.
  • Improved search functionality with weekly reports for optimisation.
”Our search used to be very static and we had little or no influence on it. We now use reporting almost on a weekly basis to check frequently used search terms and check “0 results”. Thanks to this reporting, we know which synonyms we need to add, for example, or even which products we are still missing from our range.”

Results

With the arrival of Tweakwise, Hermie’s online shop has undergone a major evolution. ”Our search used to be very static and we had little or no influence on it,” Gert explains, ”We now use the reporting almost on a weekly basis to check frequently used search terms and check “0 results”. Thanks to this reporting, we know which synonyms we need to add, for example, or even which products we are still missing from our range.”
The ability to customise product rankings at will means Hermie can now highlight favourite brands and ongoing promotions with ease, aligning product visibility precisely with business strategy. In addition, filters have received a smart upgrade, tailored to each main category, which not only simplifies the search for the perfect product, or product discovery, but also makes it a lot more enjoyable. This ensures a high level of relevance in Hermie’s catalogue. Gert is enthusiastic about smart filters in search results: ”Even in the standard Shopware search, we used to have a lot of unimportant filters displayed. Now, with smart filters, only the currently relevant filters show up. This ensures that the customer does not have to go through dozens of filters and can really filter in a targeted way.”

Future plans

Gert elaborates on his plans with Tweakwise: ”I would like to work more on recommendations and guided selling in the future. This is a feature that is a bit less accessible for start-up customers, which is why this is also planned later. It seems to me a very powerful tool to guide customers in some categories.”

Guided Selling

Guided Selling is one of Tweakwise’s leading features. Based on product features, you set up intuitive questions for visitors so they can filter huge ranges through human questions. Think ”How big is your plant?” instead of “What diameter pot are you looking for?”. With this, a visitor bypasses the need to set dozens of filters and the shopping experience becomes a lot easier and more fun. In short: a smart and fun way to improve product discovery.

Conclusion

Tweakwise’s integration has further boosted Hermie’s transformation into a successful, relevant webshop, and this is clearly visible in sales. This collaboration leads to improved search functionalities, dynamic product ranking, and smart filtering, allowing customers to effortlessly navigate through the extensive range of garden products. With future plans to further expand Tweakwise’s capabilities, Hermie is committed to an even better and more personalised shopping experience.
”With Tweakwise’s integration into Shopware, our customers can quickly and easily find the products they are looking for, resulting in an improved shopping experience and higher conversions.”
