Boost & Bury: give your merchandising more commercial power

A strong product list does not happen by chance. There is a clear strategy behind it. You decide which products should be visible, what ranking makes sense, and how visitors can find products that match their intent as quickly as possible. This is often based on factors such as stock, margin, popularity, relevance, sales data, and personalization.
That foundation remains important. But in e-commerce, not everything is predictable. Sometimes a campaign is coming up where certain products deserve more attention. Sometimes you want to highlight seasonal products. Sometimes a new collection needs extra visibility, even though those products have not yet built up much sales data. And sometimes you want to make certain products slightly more or less visible on a structural basis, for example because of stock, commercial priority, or assortment strategy.
That does not mean your existing merchandising sorting is not working well. Your base ranking remains the foundation. But there are moments when current circumstances or your commercial strategy call for additional control. That is exactly why Boost & Bury was developed.

Why strong sorting is sometimes not enough

Many e-commerce teams have carefully configured their product ranking. Products are sorted logically based on commercial and relevance signals, such as stock, margin, popularity, or proven conversion. This keeps product lists consistent, relevant, and commercially strong.
Still, that foundation does not always have to lead in every situation. During Black Friday, you may want to show campaign products higher in the ranking. Around Easter, you may want to give Easter offers more visibility. When launching a new collection, you may want visitors to discover products that have not yet been viewed or purchased often. In other situations, you may want to give certain products slightly more or less influence in the ranking on a structural basis.
In these situations, you do not want to change your entire sorting strategy. You also do not want to manually pin products to fixed positions or check after every campaign whether everything has been reset correctly. You want to be able to adjust where needed, while your existing merchandising logic continues to work.

What is Boost & Bury?

Boost & Bury gives merchandisers direct control over product visibility in Tweakwise. You can boost products, giving them more weight in the ranking. Or you can bury products, making them less prominent without removing them completely.
The key difference is that you do not fix products to a specific position. You are not saying that a product should always appear in first place. Instead, you give certain products more or less influence within the existing ranking.
This can be temporary, for example during a campaign or season. But it can also be structural, when you want to apply certain commercial choices for a longer period. Think of products that you want to give more visibility by default, or products that remain relevant but deserve less priority.
This keeps the base relevance intact. Your existing merchandising continues to work, including sorting rules, personalization, stock logic, and other commercial settings. Boost & Bury adds a flexible commercial layer that allows you to adjust product visibility when it makes sense.

Let campaigns move with your product ranking

Campaigns often have a clear start and end date. In the run-up to Black Friday, you want to give campaign products extra visibility. During the campaign, you want them to perform well in categories, search results, and relevant product lists. Once Black Friday is over, those products should not remain unnecessarily high in the ranking.
With Boost & Bury, you can create one rule for this. You decide which products belong to the campaign, define when the rule should be active, and let the ranking automatically return to your regular merchandising strategy after the end date. The same principle applies to campaigns around Easter, Mother’s Day, summer promotions, back-to-school periods, or end-of-year campaigns.
This prevents manual work and reduces the risk of errors. You do not have to check after a busy campaign weekend whether certain products are still ranking too high. You also do not need development or support to make commercial adjustments.

Work smarter with scheduled merchandising

Scheduling is an important part of Boost & Bury. Many commercial actions are temporary, but in practice they are still often managed manually. Someone has to activate a rule, someone has to remember to switch it off again, and if that does not happen on time, products remain visible for longer than intended.
With scheduled Boost & Bury rules, you can work ahead. You prepare a campaign, choose a start and end date, and Tweakwise automatically applies the change. Product ranking moves with your commercial planning, without requiring manual action at exactly the right moment. This reduces operational work and makes your merchandising less error-prone.
At the same time, scheduling is not mandatory. When a Boost & Bury rule is a structural part of your merchandising strategy, you can keep it active for a longer period. This means you can use the same feature for both temporary campaigns and ongoing commercial control.

Give new collections temporary extra visibility

New products often face a challenge. They are commercially important, but they have little historical data. As a result, they may have less chance of immediately appearing high in the ranking.
With Boost & Bury, you can give a new collection extra weight temporarily, for example during the first two weeks after launch. During that period, new products get more visibility, helping visitors discover them sooner. After that, the extra boost automatically expires and your regular merchandising strategy determines the ranking again.
This gives new products a stronger start without requiring structural changes to your sorting.

More control over search terms

Boost & Bury is not only valuable for campaigns or categories. It can also help with specific search terms.
Some search queries seem clear, but still produce mixed results in practice. If a visitor searches for “mango”, you may want to show fresh mangoes more prominently than canned mango or products where mango is only used as a flavor.
Or take the search term “natural”. A visitor may be looking for natural chips, while there are also many other products where the word natural appears.
With Boost & Bury, you can give products that are commercially and contextually the best match for a search term more weight. At the same time, you can make products that are less relevant less prominent. You are not replacing search relevance; you are refining the ranking based on commercial and contextual knowledge.

Make products less visible without hiding them

Not every product that should rank lower needs to disappear completely. A product without stock can still be relevant. It may return to stock soon, you may want to keep it visible for orientation, or there may be variants available that can still be purchased.
Still, you want to prevent out-of-stock products from staying too prominent. With Bury, you can make these products less visible without removing them completely from the product list. This gives you more nuance than a hard on-or-off decision. You keep the product in the list, while giving more attention to products with higher commercial value or better availability.
This can be temporary, for example during a stock issue or campaign period. But it can also be a structural part of your merchandising approach, for example when certain products remain relevant but do not need the highest visibility.

Seamless within your existing Tweakwise setup

Boost & Bury is not separate from the rest of your merchandising setup. The feature works on top of your existing strategy and connects seamlessly with the Builder and other merchandising modules in Tweakwise.
That matters, because merchandising in practice consists of multiple layers. You work with sorting rules, components, product data, categories, search terms, personalization, and commercial logic. Boost & Bury does not add a separate route next to that. It strengthens the setup you have already built.
This allows you to keep working in the same environment. The foundation stays in place, while you gain extra control over the products that deserve more or less visibility at that moment.

Not a replacement for your merchandising strategy

Boost & Bury does not replace your existing merchandising. Traditional merchandising determines the foundation. It defines how products are normally ranked. That foundation is needed to keep product lists consistent, relevant, and commercially strong.
Boost & Bury is an extra layer on top of that foundation. Sometimes you use that layer for temporary commercial exceptions, such as campaigns or seasonal moments. Sometimes you use it structurally, because certain products should receive more or less weight based on your commercial strategy.
So it is not a choice between merchandising or Boost & Bury. It is merchandising strengthened with Boost & Bury. Your base strategy remains in place, while you gain the freedom to adjust when a campaign, season, search term, stock status, or collection requires it.

More control over dynamic product lists

Product lists are not fixed shelves. They need to move with campaigns, seasons, stock, new collections, search behavior, and commercial priorities that can change from one period to the next.
Boost & Bury helps you manage that movement more effectively. You add an extra layer that allows you to influence product visibility in a targeted way, while your existing merchandising strategy remains intact.
This means you keep the base ranking you have already built, while gaining the freedom to make commercial adjustments. You can give campaigns more impact, bring new products to visitors’ attention faster, refine search results, and move less relevant products further back in a subtle way.
With Boost & Bury, e-commerce teams get the extra control they need to make product lists more relevant for every campaign, every season, and every visitor.
